Entertain yourself with these screen savers

Most computer users have a favourite screen-saver, ranging from theclassic Flying Windows, to beer commercials, to moving monsters shouting“Don’t Panic”. But why pay for these things when you can get them free- legitimately? Use the World Wide Web as a source of entertaining toolsto make your computer desktop infinitely more exciting.

If you don’t mind punting a softdrink - Coca Cola offers a number ofgreat screen savers, available from their Web site. First you have to registerbut soon they’ll allow you to download any of the files from the site,including some of their print ads, TV commercials and radio jingles. Thecollection of screen savers includes one for the calorie-conscious, featuringanimated Diet Cokes.

Find a host of cool screen savers on the Clark.net WWW site. If balloons,hearts and pumpkins are your idea of screen relaxation, you will find themon this site. An explanation on how to download these products is given,and the site even helps you to unzip the larger files. There is also arather naughty prank called ‘Ha Ha’ available on the site. When you runthe file, it makes all your Windows disappear. I’ll leave it to you tofind out how to get them back!

The Guiness Screen Saver is a favourite among Guiness fans. The animationfeatures a guy and a pint of Guiness, as well as some cool audio. The screensaver file is huge (1.3 Meg), so I wouldn’t advise trying to download itover a modem. For those on a high-speed network connection, find the Guinessscreen saver on the SatelNet Communications page, along with some otherentertaining products.

To find other fun screen savers, do a search on the words ‘screen saver.’This will present you with list of fun, zany, and, in some cases, naughtyscreensavers to brighten up your terminal. A new search engine called AltaVista, engineered by Digital, offers an exceptional searching facility.Surprisingly, quite a few of the screen savers that were listed by thesearch engine are not freeware, but available only if you cough up.

One item that was listed as freeware is the official Die Hard screensaver. This is also a large file, so if you are using a dial-up connection,have a couple of cups of coffee while Die Hard downloads.
